The agency called us today.
They won't be showing our profile to the birthmom today after all.
Why?
Because our background checks and fingerprints expired in December- and they didn't tell us.
They sent us a letter December 11th that- in order to renew our Home Study (which expires Feb. 5th)- we needed to re-do our background checks and fingerprints.
With the cost of renewing the Home Study being $300 + anyway, we've been trying to get ahold of the new girl at the agency that's taken on our case.
Our original social worker quit, and this girl's not a social worker- she's just been trained on the bare minimum of what our social worker should know.
So, she calls us today to ask where we are on getting those forms in.
I said, "I'm so glad you called, because we're wondering why we need to redo this ($76 total, on top of the above mentioned cost), when the state of Iowa and the FBI have all this on file. Can't you guys just check those files to see if we've committed any crimes since the last time it was done?"
Nope.
So, not only did they send us the paperwork LATE (in order to get it all back in time we should have had it by October or November), they did NOT tell us that it was expiring just 3 weeks after we GOT the paperwork. Which wasn't enough time to get it through the system and back to them anyway- because it takes 4-6 weeks.
So, they're calling the other agency office and telling them not to show our profile today.
We can't move forward on anything until this is taken care of.
And the very best part- we can't do a single thing about it because the expiration date for this stuff was listed in our first Home Study (according to them), and even though they told us they would take care of letting us know when we needed to renew things they didn't open our file to check until it was too late.
So, we are not happy today.
And, we will be glad when the adoption finally goes through and we can leave this agency far, far behind us.
We would pull out now if we could- but so far, we can't find a way to do that in which we wouldn't lose all of the money we've paid in thus far.
