A short and sweet update.
On December 15th we will be meeting with my pelvic surgeon.
He will fill us in on when my Endometriosis surgery will be (most likely sometime in early Jan.),
and will do another ultra sound to see if the Metformin I've been taking has either shrunk
the ovarian cysts or made them go away completely.
If the cysts have not gone away we will be looking at ovarian surgery following
the Endometriosis surgery.
We're really REALLY hoping that ovarian surgery isn't needed-
ovaries are only the size of almonds to begin with, and this would require basically cutting them in half. And there are a lot of risks associated with the particular surgery our Dr. is suggesting-
like painful adhesions and chronic pain and the cysts growing back.
So, if it turns out I'll be needing ovarian surgery as well, we'll be getting a second opinion-
just to make sure there isn't a better surgery option out there that our Dr. isn't suggesting.
Because, we find it a bit worrisome that he (our Dr.) has told us from the beginning that NO DOCTORS in our area will do this particular ovarian surgery, because "THEY DON'T BELIEVE IN IT." To us, that seems a bit scary.
Anyhoo, during the Endometriosis surgery the surgeon will use a laser to burn away any Endometriosis present, then will also inject dye up my fallopian tubes to make sure there are no blockages. If there are blockages, they can hopefully be fixed before they bring me 'round again.
Then, it's up to walk around a little bit before I leave (outpatient surgery, thankfully), and home to rest, relax, and heal. I've been warned that it will be a few weeks before I'm back to my normal self again.
And, HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS:
IF all goes very well (no ovarian surgery needed, etc.), we have been given the "all-clear" to
go ahead and start trying to conceive again ONE WEEK after I am completely healed up!
Obviously, we're hoping for the best!
